Starting Numbers

danceit makes drawing, printing and displaying starting numbers super easy. This feature helps competition organizers assign unique numbers to performances without manual effort.

How starting numbers are drawn

After schedule is set, organizer can navigate to 'Draw staring numbers' module, click it, and that's it! 🎉 Every performance has now its unique starting number!

How the random mechanism works

During the draw, danceit goes category by category according to the schedule.

In each category all participating performances are randomly mixed. The dance school, registration time, starting number in other categories or in other competitions does not matter. When the drawing of numbers in one category is finished, the drawing of numbers in the next category starts as if it was the first one and so on.

Perceived Patterns in Randomness

Sometimes participants might believe they see patterns in the drawn starting numbers, despite the fact that the process is completely random. This is known as apophenia - the tendency to perceive meaningful connections between unrelated things.

A similar phenomenon occurs in games of chance, where players might think that if a roulette wheel has landed on red 10 times in a row, it's "due" to land on black next time. This is known as the Gambler's fallacy.

In the context of starting numbers, dancers or coaches might believe that if they received early positions in previous categories, they should get later positions in subsequent ones. However, danceit's randomization treats each category draw independently - your position in previous categories has absolutely no influence on your position in future ones.
